12 Famous footballers with degrees

Fame & Fortune

After Kaizer Chiefs recently celebrated two impressive qualifications at The Village, here are 12 of the most high-profile footballers to have secured degrees.

Chiefs celebrated the achievements of Brylon Petersen and Bernard Parker in February with the young goalkeeper securing a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering at Wits University.

While football has often brought plenty of fame and fortune in a swift period of time for many, retirement, for some, has taken away those riches in an even quicker time period.

But in the modern era, the incredibly lucrative contracts and financial advisors have provided more footballers sound advice to be able to live more comfortably than the legends of yesteryear.

But not resting on their laurels, the likes of Vincent Kompany and Soloman Kalou have looked towards education even before they officially retired from professional sports.

The former Premier League stars have become model professionals for youngsters aspiring to follow the same route with Kompany acquiring a Masters Degree in Business Administration at the University of Manchester during his playing days.

Now managing his boyhood club Anderlecht, the Citizens legend hasn't exactly needed to use his qualification just yet but still has the back-up plan should it not go to plan in the long-term.
