Along with a slightly updated design, the Galaxy S5 features a number of technological advancements including the fastest processor on the market, water protection and built-in security and fitness features.
The phone has ‘kill switch’ mechanism that allows the owner to shut the phone down entirely with personal data removed should the phone go missing or stolen.
Water and dust protection
The Samsung S5 is water and dust resistant. It can survive for half an hour in one-metre-deep water without damage.
It has an upgraded 16-megapixel rear-facing camera up from the 13-megapixel of the Galaxy S4. The camera also includes HDR photo and video capabilities and features improved low-light performance.
The S5 packs a 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip and 2GB of RAM. The phone will be offered in 16GB and 32GB options and can be expanded with the help of a microSD card.
Samsung has included new Gear 2 and Gear Neo smart watches to complement the smartphone, as well as a wearable Gear Fit device for exercise purposes.
The new S5 is available through Samsung Experience Stores, leading retailers and local operators at the suggested retail price of R10 299.
