KICK OFF crowned FIFA 16 kings’s Mark Herman and ‘Proff’ Khumalo attended the Xbox One event, which was contested by other sports media houses including IOL, TeamTalk Media, SA Breaking News and Bush Radio.

But it was our special weapon, loyal reader Leaveil Des Fountain (still in his work suit), who excelled in the 12-man, two-group round-robin competition, skilfully eliminating the rest of the contenders before a closely fought penalty-shootout victory in the final.

A big thank you to Canal Walk and BT Games for the invitation.

Canal Walk’s Gaming Expo is still in full force and culminates this weekend with a FIFA Tournament open to the general public.

Registration opens today at 3pm (first-come, first-served), with matches scheduled for Saturday and Sunday. The winner of the FIFA 16 Tournament will walk away with an Xbox One and Forza 6 game to the value of R6 000.

Or you can just head down to Canal Walk and play some FIFA 16, PES 2016 or any of the other world-class video games on show on Centre Court.

The Gaming Expo is also giving South African gamers and tech enthusiasts a chance to experience the highly anticipated Oculus Rift Virtual Reality headset (see press release below).

Sneak Peek – Oculus Rift Virtual Reality set to appear at Canal Walk Shopping Centre for Gaming Expo for a look into the future

Virtual Reality gets a boost this weekend as the next generation virtual reality kit – Oculus Rift – makes a surprise appearance at Canal Walk Shopping Centre’s Gaming Expo.

Gaming, entertainment and even the learning experience has developed exponentially over the past decade, so it is not surprise that virtual reality is next on the cards to receive attention – and a growing following.

Developers of some of the world’s biggest game names are also creating virtual reality versions of their products to bring to the immersive world that is controlled by Oculus. But more than a gaming console, the Oculus Rift is also billed as a full-on immersive experience for virtual realty movies, not to mention jumping to a destination on the other side of the world – armchair travel anyone?

However, beyond pure pleasure, Virtual Reality has a practical application. 3D modelling is also a growing career and design discipline. The Oculus Rift set to visit CWSC is being trialled by a design school, who have agreed to demonstrate its capabilities at the Gaming Expo.

Says Vanessa Herbst, Marketing Manager at CWSC: “This is an exceptional opportunity to explore a new paradigm and one that will affect all of us in some way shape or form. We would like to thank Learn 3D and Oculus for this incredible opportunity to have a look into the future.”

Canal Walk Shopping Centre and BT Games who are staging this weekend’s Gaming Expo, which has attracted thousands of visitors – young and old – confirmed that the highly anticipated gear would be during Saturday and Sunday (31 October and 1 November).
