LaLiga training camp comes to CPT

Community

LaLiga has announced that they will be holding a training camp in Cape Town that is set to take place in November 2021.

What happened?

Following the success of the first LaLiga Camps held in Johanesburg, the next round of LaLiga Camps will now be held in Cape Town from 22-28 November 2021. This camp will be in partnership with the international youth football tournament IBERCUP.

Over 160 aspirant young footballers whose ages vary from 10 to under 18, attended the Joburg event at the St Stithians College in August and received expert coaching experience from LaLiga UEFA Pro Licence coaches Toni Alvarez and Luis Martinez and experienced local IBERCUP coaches.

The benefits of LaLiga camps?

The managing director of LaLiga, Marcos Pelegrin spoke about why these camps are so valuable to young players.

“We were very encouraged by the success of the first LaLiga Camps in South Africa, held jointly with our valued partners IBERCUP, in Johannesburg. And we are excited to now host these Camps in Cape Town in November, where we will once again bring top LaLiga coaches from Spain to share the methodology and training methods of Spanish football with young South African footballers.

He said, “These Camps are important in sharing LaLiga’s knowledge and expertise for the benefit and development of South African football. They are also important in sharing the sport’s intrinsic values that will lead them to become better footballers and better people as well.”

The impact LaLiga aims to make on South Africa?

An important objective of the Camps is to give the disadvantaged youth from all over Mzansi - who would not ordinarily have access to an opportunity like this – the chance to be coached by top LaLiga and IBERCUP coaches.

The CEO of IBERCUP added, “With the expertise in football knowledge of LaLiga and the IBERCUP network, we are on the path to change the fortunes and face of youth football in South Africa and I can’t wait to see the talent in Cape Town”.
