Bopha celebration goes worldwide

The Bopha celebration has now been introduced to Europe after former Kaizer Chiefs striker Ryan Moon showed off his moves in the last week.

In the past weekend, two overseas-based South African players helped their Swedish side Varbergs Bois secure a 3-0 win over Östersunds. Tashreeq Matthews got a goal and assist while Moon also found the back of the net.

But there was another incident in their previous tie that caught the eye after the 25-year-old proceeded to do the Bopha celebration after scoring against Kalmar FF.

The goal celebration originates from the bopha song challenge that had Mzansi moving their feet and showing their moves on social media. Thamsanqa Gabuza soon followed suit with his own version and it’s been a hit since along with his impressive form for SuperSport United.

Gabuza has previously explained to Kickoff why he chooses this specific celebration.

"It's straight from the training ground my man, we celebrate when we score in training, I was scoring a lot at training and my teammates liked my new celebration," the 34-year-old said.

"Arrive alive my man, I'm sending a message too because bopha, bopha, bopha means arrive,"

The former Orlando Pirates man has chosen to spread to simultaneously have fun while also reminding drivers to be responsible on the roads.

Moon has now taken it upon himself to follow Gabuza’s lead and it appears that the star is also in form after netting his sixth goal of the 2021 Allsvenskan season.
