With growing criticism by Portugal fans mounting against Cristiano Ronaldo amid his recent poor performances, his sister has now torn into his "forever ungrateful" critics.

Although he provided an assist in A Selecao's 4-0 win over Czech Republic last week, the 37-year-old failed to score in the tie, and then produced an underwhelming display in the side's final UEFA Nations League group-stage encounter against Spain on Tuesday.

La Furia Roja advanced to the semi-finals of the tournament following their 1-0 victory, while Ronaldo drew a lot of criticism from fans and some media outlets for his uninspiring performance.

With the 2022 FIFA World Cup around the corner, it has been suggested by some that the striker should be dropped as a guaranteed starter given his lack of form, coupled with the fact that he is also not playing consistently for his club, Manchester United.

He has also scored only one goal in 10 matches for club and country to date this season, a penalty in a UEFA Europa League match against FC Sheriff.

With some having even suggested he should retire from the international game, this seems to have rubbed up his sister Katia Aveiro the wrong way, and she has since jumped to her brother's defence.

"The current times don't surprise me at all," she wrote in an Instagram story, according to Goal.

"The Portuguese spit on the plate they eat, it has always been that way.

"It is necessary to give a hand to those who have always given theirs to Portugal.
