Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o has reportedly warned manager RIgobert Song about the possibility of being fired.
Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o has reportedly warned manager RIgobert Song about the possibility of being fired.

An under-fire manager competing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has now admitted to feeling the "pressure" following reports of his potential sacking.

Rigobert Song's Cameroon side are set to take on Gambia in their final group stage match and after picking up just one point in two matches, their next match is a must-win if they are to keep their hopes of progressing to the next round alive.

The Indomitable Lions drew their first match with Guinea, then suffered a 3-1 loss to defending AFCON champions Senegal, leaving the 47-year-old boss under pressure.

"I’ve experienced pressure since I was very young, I’ve known it, pressure, as a player," the manager said at a press conference per Greenock Telegraph.

"It’s part of the game; you win, you’re strong but you lose, you’re bad. I’m not getting into this game.

"I don’t panic, I don’t stress. I listen, I understand the criticism, I know what I have to do, I stay calm. My players know me, I simply tell them: 'Do your job'. I trust my players, we’ll get there."

According to CFOOT Magazine via Cameroon Concord, Cameroonian Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o is considering the dismissal of Rigobert Song and his coaching staff.

It is believed that after their 1-1 draw with Guinea, the former Barcelona striker addressed the managerial unit in the locker room, threatening to fire them if they "don't do the job".

It is also said that the situation worsened after their defeat to Senegal, with Song and his staff reportedly on the path to dismissal.

The Lions will face Gambia on Tuesday, 23 January with their AFCON hopes hanging in the balance.
