Hugo Broos has confirmed his Bafana Bafana future after their third place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations.

With rumours over a possible move to north Africa circulating after his third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations with Bafana Bafana, Hugo Broos has confirmed his plans for the future with the South African national team.

The 72-year-old has only coached two national teams in his career. First, he was in charge of the Cameroonian national team, who he lead to a fifth AFCON title in 2017 and now he is in charge of the 1996 African champions, a team which he has led to their best finish at the continental showpiece in 24 years with a bronze medal.

Given his recent success with Bafana, there has been mounting speculation that he could ditch SAFA for more historically successful national team in north Africa, but Broos has insisted that the only way that he will leave South Africa prior to the expiration of his contract is if the football association decide to fire him.

“It’s normal when you have results as a coach or you play a very good tournament, such is the case with a few of our players, that there is interest of other teams,” the Belgian said in his final press conference at the 2023 AFCON.

“For a player it’s a club, for a national coach it’s a country. I had that experience also when I won with Cameroon but most of the time its only rumours.

“I can say to you today that there is nothing. If Hugo Broos is leaving South Africa, then it is because the federation decides to leave.

“I am happy with my job, I am happy with my team, I am not always happy with the media but okay, I take it with and we will see now. I hope people will be more and more behind the team because they deserve it.”
