Brazil have announced that a certain Manchester United star has now been dropped from the national team amid allegations of domestic abuse against him.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) confirmed on Monday night that they have decided to withdraw winger Antony from the senior team for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.

"In order to safeguard the alleged victim, the player, the Brazilian national team and the CBF, the organisation informs that Antony has been removed from the Brazilian national team," a statement by the country's football governing body read, according to the Daily Mail.

The decision comes amid an ongoing investigation of domestic abuse against the player.

Gabriela Cavallin, Antony's ex-girlfriend, has accused him of assaulting her in June last year while on holiday in Brazil. She claims the winger also threatened to push her out of a car at high speed during another incident.

Cavallin also alleges that the former Ajax Amsterdam star attacked her again in January this year in a Manchester hotel room, stating that he headbutted her and punched her in the chest, causing her to dislodge a breast implant.

It is claimed a final incident occurred in May, with the 23-year-old said to have threatened her with a glass, with which she was eventually cut while trying to defend herself.

The Greater Manchester Police have since confirmed that they are "aware of the allegations made and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this report", per the BBC.

Having previously denied any wrongdoing in June, Antony released another statement on Monday night, once again denying the allegations from Cavallin.

"I can say with confidence that the accusations are false," he wrote on social media.

"My relationship with Ms Gabriela was tumultuous, with verbal offenses from both sides, but I never practiced any physical aggression.

"I trust the ongoing police investigations will reveal the truth about my innocence."

The winger has now been replaced by Arsenal's Gabriel Jesus in the Selecao squad.

These allegations come in the wake of Mason Greenwood's exit from Old Trafford following a six-month internal investigation after he was arrested on suspicion of rape, coercive and controlling behaviour, and assault in January 2022.

With those charges having been dropped in February this year, the striker has since joined Spanish side Getafe on loan for the rest of this season.
