Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly adamant about signing a certain Manchester City star, with the French giants said to be ready to beat FC Barcelona, who have also been mooted to be interested, to his signature.

As things stand, three City players will out of contract at the end of the season, namely experienced third-choice goalkeeper Scott Carson, rape-accused fullback Benjamin Mendy, and midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

The latter has already drawn a lot of interest from various clubs as a result, including Barca and his former club Nurnberg, whom he represented between 2009 and 2011.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Citizens and the player are not close to reaching an agreement on a new deal, and both parties are said to be in no rush to finalise contract talks.

Earlier this month, the Germany star admitted he was not concerned about the matter, saying: "I don't know if it has anything to do with age but I'm pretty relaxed about it.

"Even if it doesn't sound like much anymore, the summer of 2023 still feels so far away. I'm not really worried about that at the moment."

While talks over a new contract appear to stall, PSG are now ready to pounce for the 32-year-old and sign him on a free contract at the end of the season, according to Spanish publication El Nacional.

The report claims that Les Parisiens' sporting director Luis Campos is steadfast on acquiring the playmaker, while club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is believed to be willing to pull out all the stops in order to beat the Blaugrana to the former Borussia Dortmund midfielder's signature.

Meanwhile, in a recent Bild podcast, Gundogan ruled out an early return to Nurnberg.

"To be honest, it will still be a bit difficult next year, but I can definitely imagine returning to FC Nürnberg one day in whatever capacity," he said.

"I associate the club and the city with incredibly great people and moments."
