Manchester City have been crowned FA Cup champions after defeating cross-town rivals Manchester United 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.

Pep Guardiola went with the strongest side possible although Ederson was on the bench as Stefan Ortega continued in goal for the cup games, while the Red Devils recalled Fred and Christian Eriksen.

City got off to a dream start when Ilkay Gundogan found the back of the net after 14 seconds with a superb first-time volley that left David de Gea with no chance.

Guardiola's side took control for the rest of the half with their usual dominance, while United were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure while looking to launch on the counter.

Out of nowhere, United were awarded a penalty following a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review, which spotted a handball from Jack Grealish and allowed Bruno Fernandes to step up and slot home the equaliser on 33 minutes.

City enjoyed most of the possession but United nearly took the lead before the break through Raphael Varane, who volleyed from eight yards from a corner.

The Citizens upped the intensity five minutes after the break as a pin-point supply from Kevin De Bruyne found Gundogan,  who volleyed in at the first time of asking from the edge of the box.

Erik Ten Hag’s men looked to keep their hopes alive and enforced a substitution during the midway mark with Alejandro Garnacho replacing Eriksen.

Gundogan seemed to have bagged a third goal in the remaining ten minutes through a first-time finish from close-range, but it was pulled back for offside.

The Red Devils were close to level matters with a header in the area by Scott McTominay, but Ortega tipped onto the post before parrying the follow-up too.

City managed the closing moments of play successfully well and ensured the win as well as FA Cup to keep their treble hopes on track.

Confirmed line-ups:

Manchester City: Ortega Moreno, Walker, Stones, Dias, Akanji, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, Gundogan, Bernardo, Grealish, Haaland

Manchester United: De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Lindelof, Shaw, Casemiro, Fred, Eriksen, Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford
