Pep Guardiola is now reportedly ready to sanction the sale of a €40 million (R820 million) Manchester City star.
City currently have two notable stars out on loan this season, namely Joao Cancelo, who was shifted out to FC Barcelona at the beginning of the campaign, and Kalvin Phillips, who made the temporary switch to West Ham United in the January transfer window.
It is not the former's first loan spell away from the club, though, as he spent six months on Bayern Munich's books in 2022/23, before joining the Blaugrana this season.
The Portugal international has played regularly under manager Xavi Hernandez at the Camp Nou, and reports suggest that the LALIGA giants are keen to keep him at the club for longer.
His parent club City are now said to be ready to sell the versatile fullback after 18 months of no action under Guardiola.
According to Spanish outlet Sport, the reigning Premier League champions will sell Cancelo at the end of the season to the highest bidder.
It is said that, as things stand, Barca cannot afford to make his deal permanent as they cannot meet City's €40 million valuation of him.
It is also claimed there is no way back for Cancelo at the Etihad.
The 29-year-old was reported to be at loggerheads with Guardiola before joining Bayern in January 2023, with there having been suggestions he was unhappy with his lack of game time under the Catalan tactician.
Cancelo has registered four assists and three goals in 30 games for Barca in all competitions so far this season.
City, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for the 2023/24 Premier League title, with their next match being a huge clash against leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
