Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the decision to allow Mohamed Salah to join Egypt on international duty will not lie with him.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that the decision to allow Mohamed Salah to join Egypt on international duty will not lie with him.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reacted to Egypt's reported rejection of the club's recent request regarding Mohamed Salah.

The Reds attacker has made just one appearance for the Merseyside club after picking up a hamstring injury at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah participated in Liverpool's 4-1 victory over Brentford last month, but was ruled out once more following what is said to be a reoccurrence of his initial knock.

During his recovery, however, the forward was included in the Pharaohs squad that is set compete in a friendly tournament in the United Arab Emirates during the international break later this month, one that will also include Tunisia, Croatia and New Zealand.

The Merseyside outfit then requested that their talisman be exempted from international duty, but this was rejected by the Egyptian Football Association

It was then reported that the African giants were struggling to get in contact with the former Chelsea star, with no meeting between the national side's technical staff and the player having taken place.

Speaking ahead of the first leg of Liverpool's UEFA Europa League round of 16 encounter against Sparta Prague on Thursday night, Klopp confirmed that Salah has joined the squad following a return to training this week.

"Salah has travelled with us. He's trained for two days and is full of energy, we have to see but it is so good he is back and that is good for us," the former Borussia Dortmund boss said at a pre-match press conference, per SPORTbible.

"He is so happy and it was an unlikely situation where he had so long out, played an incredible game against Brentford and then was out, that is how it is.

"We want to be careful but this is a super intense period of the season. We want to use him. It's just good news."

The German manager was also asked about the star's national team call-up, and he insisted that the decision does not lie with him.

"That will be decided by a different department," Klopp continued.

"Let's see how long he can play now. Only two days in team training. After so long out, players are not normally with us but this is the situation.

"Two games with Egypt? It's not up to me, we're not involved.

"You can discuss in other departments, let me say it like that."
