Manchester United moved to within eight points of the top four after defeating Everton 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Coach Erik Ten Hag surprisingly named the same starting line-up from the defeat to Manchester City last weekend, with Marcus Rashford remaining out on the left flank as Bruno Fernandes played the false nine role.

The home side got off to a more promising start after Alejandro Garnacho won a penalty after being brought down by James Tarkowski, which allowed Bruno Fernandes to step up and slot into the bottom corner.

Red Devils goalkeeper Andre Onana had to be at his best midway through the second period as he produced a good save to keep out James Garner's powerful strike.

Ten Hag's men would go on to be awarded a second penalty of the game on 34 minutes after Garnacho was fouled again, however Fernandes stepped up aside for Rashford to come up and convert the penalty.

The Red Devils could have added a third goal ten minutes after the break when Fernandes did well to slip in Garnacho down the right flank, but the Argentine blazed over the target.

The Toffees gained a bit more momentum going forward as United struggled to fashion any openings at the other end, with the players being quite wasteful with the ball in the final third.

The Red Devils saw out the remaining stages with relative ease to get back on the winning trail, while fourth-placed Aston Villa take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
