Manchester City resumed the Premier League title charge with a 4-0 victory away to Brighton and Hove Albion on Thursday night.

Pep Guardiola made three changes from City's FA Cup win, with Ederson, Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol brought back into the line-up while Erling Haaland was not included in the squad once again.

The defending champions got the breakthrough after 16 minutes when Kevin de Bruyne got his name on the score-sheet with a lovely header from Kyle Walker's pin-point cross.

While Brighton struggled to carve out chances, City went onto double their lead at the midway point of the half when Phil Foden bagged his 15th league goal of the season with a deflected free-kick.

The third goal arrived ten minutes before the interval when Bernardo Silva intercepted Valentin Barco's pass out from the back and teed up Foden, who calmly slotted home for his second of the night.

It was more of the same in the second half as the visitors extended their advantage after the hour mark via Julian Alvarez who fired into an empty net after Walker had beaten goalkeeper Jason Steele to the ball in the box.

Brighton, meanwhile, had a couple sights at goal after that as Danny Welbeck did well to carve out some space before curling one just wide of Ederson's upright from the edge of the box.

The Seagull were unable to find a way past the City defence in the remainder of the second period, as the visitors claimed a fourth successive victory in the league.

The win takes Guardiola's charges above Liverpool and into second place, one point behind league leaders Arsenal with a game in hand.
