An AS Roma star has spoken on Bafana Bafana ahead of their match against Algeria, saying they are a stubborn side that plays beautiful football.

While Houssem Aouar may have missed Algeria's 3-2 victory over Bolivia in a friendly on Friday due to illness, the Serie A midfielder will be looking to be among the action when his team takes on South Africa on Tuesday night.

Speaking ahead of the game, the 25-year-old highlighted the status that both teams have on the continent, believing this will help make for a compelling encounter.

"We will face a stubborn team that plays beautiful football, and the most prominent evidence of that is what it presented in the last African Cup of Nations," he said, per Kooora.

"The match will be good, given that the two teams are considered among the best [in Africa]."

The clash against South Africa will serve as a considerable test for Desert Foxes manager Vladimir Petkovic, who was appointed to the role last month following the departure of Djamel Belmadi after an underwhelming AFCON 2023 campaign in which the team failed to make it past the group stage.

"It is true that the task of the new coach of the Algerian national team will be difficult in the beginning to understand all the matters, but the nice thing is that we have a cohesive group and we understand each other well, and all that matters to us is the happiness of the Algerian people," Aouar added.

"I can say that we are on the right track. The camp in Ramadan [Islamic month in which Muslims observe fasting] was very beautiful, and we are striving to achieve more positive results."

Hugo Broos and his men, meanwhile, were held to a 1-1 draw by Andorra on Thursday, a result that the Belgian tactician was not satisfied with

The 71-year-old will be hoping Bafana can put on a better showing when they take on the Greens.

Both sides are currently taking part in a FIFA Series international friendlies pilot project, along with Andorra and Bolivia. The project began on 18 March and will be concluding tonight, 26 March.
