CAF president Patrice Motsepe recently revealed that the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations brought in over $80 million (around R1.4 billion) in profit.

Patrice Motsepe insisted that CAF is now "seen and respected as a football organisation" and that the future of the game on the continent is bright.

The South African executive has praised the headway African football's governing body has made in recent times and how it compares to standards on a worldwide level.

"We are making progress. CAF is now seen and respected as a football organisation where there is good governance and adherence to ethics and global standards," the 62-year-old president of CAF said during the AIPS Centenary Congress on Wednesday, per the confederation's official website.

"I am confident that the future of African football looks bright.”

An area in which the organisation has made considerable improvement is the financial success of its tournaments, with the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations achieving impressive results beyond the pitch.

Motsepe has previously revealed that CAF managed to secure 17 sponsors and partnerships with 110 television networks for the competition hosted in Ivory Coast.

Speaking to France24, via soccernet.ng, Motsepe stated that the latest edition of the tournament proved a resounding financial success, significantly improving on the $4 million (around R74 million) profit it made from AFCON 2021.

"The AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire has been the most profitable ever," he explained last week.

"We've made over $80 million (around R1.4 billion). That's the profit."

He went on to divulge how some of that money will be spent.

"If we look at previous editions, we made around $4 million. So we've jumped to $80 million, and a huge chunk of that money is going to the 54 countries for football development."
