OFFICIAL: North African giants hit with transfer ban by FIFA

One of the biggest teams in Africa has officially been hit with a transfer ban by FIFA.  

Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek have announced in a statement that they have been suspended from registering new players until they resolve their current issues with former player Khalid Boutaib.

The Giza-based outfit has been instructed to pay the Moroccan an estimated fee of €2.4 million (about R49 million). 

The forward joined Zamalek from Turkish side Yeni Malatyaspor on a three-year contract in 2019, but his time at the side was disrupted by a recurring knee injury, prompting the club's former president to terminate his contract after just one year.    

Boutaib then turned to FIFA to file an official complaint against the club, and has since won the case. 

According to Ahram Online, the White Castle had initially appealed the decision made by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), but this was rejected by the Federal Court in Switzerland.  

"The club's board of directors, headed by Captain Hussein Labib, confirms that it will work hard to manage the consequences of this issue until the date of registration for the new season, noting that the board dealt in the last period with issues of similar impact that it inherited from previous boards, and succeeded in managing these issues efficiently and objectively and transparently,” the Egyptian giants said in an official statement.  

"The Council stresses that it will spare no effort, time or money in dealing with this issue and coming up with what satisfies the ambitions and desires of its fans."
