Simba SC announced the appointment of new head coach Abdelhak Benchikha.

One of Africa's biggest clubs has officially confirmed its new boss following the side's disappointing African Football League campaign.

Tanzanian club Simba SC has confirmed that Algerian tactician Abdelhak Benchikha has officially taken over as the club's head coach via its official Facebook account.

Simba were knocked out of the inaugural AFL at the quarter-final stage after losing their tie against Al Ahly – with an aggregate scoreline of 3-3 across the two legs, the Egyptians giants advanced to the semi-finals via the away goals rule.

Following their exit from the competition, the club decided to part ways with former manager Roberto Oliveira Goncalves Do Carmo, more commonly known as Robertinho, earlier this month.

Simba's new boss Benchikha, who left previous club USM Alger earlier in this campaign, led the Algerian side to continental glory last season, with the team scooping up the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

The Algerian coach has already taken charge of his new side, in their first 2023/24 CAF Champions League encounter against ASEC Mimosa on Saturday, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

With the Reds of Msimbazi currently in third place in the Tanzanian Premier League, they will be hoping that Benchikha, who has more than two decades of experience managing top African clubs such as Club Africain, Raja Casablanca, CS Belouizdad and Berkane, can lead them to domestic as well as continental glory.
