South Africa manager Hugo Broos is said to be among the candidates being considered to fill the vacant Egypt head coach role recently vacated by Rui Vitoria.

A list of candidates to take over the newly-vacant Egypt job has now reportedly been proposed, with current South Africa manager Hugo Broos among them.

Portuguese manager Rui Vitoria was relieved of his duties on Sunday after an underwhelming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign that saw the Pharaohs scrape through the group stage with just three points, before being knocked out by DR Congo in the round of 16,

The Egyptian Football Association announced its decision to part ways with Vitoria following a meeting regarding the nation's performance at the ongoing continental tournament.

With the side now shifting its attention to the 2025 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and the next AFCON set to be hosted by Morocco in 2025, former Al Ahly coach Mohamed Youssef has been appointed as general coach of the national side "until a foreign technical director is selected and the rest of the staff is formed".

According to Tahiamasr, the potential coaches who were discussed as potential candidates for the position were those who proved to be successful at the most recent showpiece.

The shortlist is said to include French tactician Herve Renard, who is believed to be the association's most preferred option, DR Congo coach Sebastien Desabre, and Nigeria's Jose Peseiro.

Current manager of the Egyptian Olympic team Rogero Micale is also believed to have been considered, but was ruled out to focus on the 2024 Olympics set to take place in Paris later this year.

It is claimed Bafana Bafana boss Hugo Broos is also a name being discussed following the impressive showing of his side, who have reached the semi-final stage of the competition where they will go up against Peseiro's Super Eagles.

The South Africans had a shaky start to the campaign, losing 2-0 to Mali in their opener. They recovered well, though, and have gone unbeaten since, collecting four points in their next two games to make it out of Group E, before knocking Morocco and Cape Verde out of the tournament in the round of 16 and quarter-finals, respectively.
