Carlos Queiroz has reportedly rejected the chance to manage two-time African champions Algeria.

A former Bafana Bafana manager has now reportedly rejected the opportunity to coach one of Africa's biggest teams.

Carlos Queiroz has turned down an offer from the Algerian Football Federation after reaching an advanced stage of the negotiations, according to KingFut, who cited Algerian reports.

It is further claimed that members of Algerian media had circulated information regarding Queiroz having Alzheimer's disease, which is believed to have angered the manager. In response, the former Manchester United assistant manager is said to have been ready to send his medical records to anyone who wants him to prove that he is in good health.

Queiroz, who managed South Africa between May 2001 and March 2002, emerged as a reported candidate for the role after Djamel Belmadi parted ways with the side on the back of a disappointing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

The Greens finished bottom of Group D after accumulating just two points from their three group-stage encounters, losing to Mauritania and drawing with Angola and Burkina Faso.

As a result, the AFCON 2019 champions were booted from the competition earlier than they would have expected, seeing them fail to make the knockout rounds for the second consecutive tournament and sparking Belmadi's decision to resign as manager of the national team.

The next person to step into the position will be required to secure a spot at AFCON 2025 as well as at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with qualifiers for the global showpiece set to resume later this year.
