The Cameroonian Football Federation has reportedly made a decision on national team coach Rigobert Song's future.

The Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) is now said to have made a surprise call on national team head coach Rigobert Song's future following the side's disappointing showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Arguably the most controversial team at the recent AFCON, the Indomitable Lions made the headlines for the wrong reasons on a few occasions due to behind-the-scenes issues in the Ivory Coast.

During their time at the tournament, several allegations of internal fighting between members of FECAFOOT and their national team's delegation made headlines, while it was also reported that a fight almost broke out in the dressing between security staff and former national team star Geremi Njitap.

To make matters worse, the west African giants were dumped out of the showpiece in the round of 16 by eventual finalists Nigeria, meaning Cameroon have failed to reach the final since winning the 2017 AFCON.

Song's time in the team's helm has been put under the microscope amid FECAFOOT's ongoing issues, which also include president Samuel Eto'o's rejected resignation from the job earlier this month.

Song was appointed as the team's head coach in March 2022 and has since managed 23 matches, registering six wins, eight draws and nine defeats.

With the 2025 AFCON and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on the agenda, FECAFOOT are now said to have taken a rather unexpected decision given the 47-year-old's underwhelming record in charge to date.

According to Le Media 100Filtre, the country's football governing body has once again placed its trust in Song by extending his contract until 2026.

It is further claimed that Eto'o, whose current role remains a mystery, was also on board with extending his former teammate's contract for two more years.
