South African manager Pitso Mosimane is reportedly in contention for the vacant managerial role at Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca.

With one of the biggest teams in Africa on the hunt for a new manager, South Africa's Pitso Mosimane is reportedly among the candidates for the role.

Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti parted ways with Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca after the team suffered a 2-0 defeat to Ittihad Tanger in a Botola Pro 1 encounter last week.

The 2021/22 CAF Champions League winners are currently sixth on the league table with 34 points, having picked up just nine victories in in 23 matches.

They have also won just one of their past five games, and failed to progress beyond the group stage of this season's CAFCL, finishing third behind Simba SC and ASEC Mimosas in Group B.

Given the now-vacant coaching position and the underwhelming nature of their campaign so far, the Red Castle have drawn up a list of potential successors to Benzarti.

According to Yalla Koura, six coaches are being considered for the position, including Egyptian manager Tarek Mostafa, Swiss coach Rene Weiler, and Mosimane.

It is further claimed that former Bafana Bafana boss Carlos Queiroz is also on the list.

Mosimane, meanwhile, recently secured a short-term post when he joined relegation-threatened Saudi Pro League side Abha Club in January this year.

Under the former Al Ahly coach, the Leaders of the South have managed to secure two victories and are sitting in 17th position in the SPL, six points ahead of bottom-of-the-table Al Hazm, but remain two points from safety.

With Mosimane's deal in the Gulf state set to expire at the end of this campaign, though, it remains to be seen where he will be coaching next season.
