The president of Wydad Casablanca has promised his players a record cash bonus if they beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the African Football League final.

Wydad Casablanca's president has now reportedly promised his players the largest cash bonus in the club's history if they successfully beat Mamelodi Sundowns in the African Football League final.

Before embarking on their 10 000km journey from Casablanca to Tshwane, the president of the Moroccan giants, Said Naciri, invited his players round for a farewell dinner – the club executive is said to not be making the trip with the squad to South Africa for the second leg of the AFL final on Sunday, and wanted to bid them farewell in as dignified a manner as possible.

It was during this dinner that the Wydad chief reportedly promised his players a historic cash bonus if they get another positive result against the DStv Premiership champions and become the first-ever winners of African football's newest showpiece event.

According to Kooora, the bonus for each player is believed to be $25 000 (R463 800) should they get the desired result.

It is further claimed that if they are defeated at Loftus Versfeld, the bonus will only be $17 000 (R315 400) per player.

Like Sundowns, the record Botola Pro League winners already have $2.7 million (R50 million) to their name for making it as far as the final of the AFL, and will be looking to get their hands on the $4 million (R74.2 million) cash prize reserved for the outright winners when they make their way to the South African capital.

Wydad will be hoping to achieve a similar result to when they last travelled to Loftus, when a late Mothobi Mvala own goal handed the north Africans a 2-2 draw that saw them progress to the 2022/23 CAF Champions League final via the away goals rule earlier this year.
