Following a verbal assault on Ghana manager Chris Hughton by a fan, Ghana's Football Association shared their decision on his future.

Ghana Football Association have made a decision on the national side's current head following a brawl with an outraged fan.

The Black Stars' 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign got off to the worst possible start, losing 2-1 to Cape Verde in what many consider to be a huge upset.

Subsequently, it was reported that an aggrieved Ghanaian fan went to the team hotel hours after the defeat and launched a verbal attack on manager Chris Hughton.

He is  believed to have then been dragged away from the vicinity by police before the situation could escalate any further.

While the fan may be unhappy with Hughton at the helm, the governing body's spokesperson Henry Asante-Twum emphasised the FA's backing of the former Norwich City manager.

“We have had a meeting with the coach and gave him 100% assurance that we are solidly behind him,” he said per BBC Sport.

“We think it is possible for the team to win the two remaining matches to make it to the next round.”

Asante-Twum also said that the fan who launched the verbal assault was not arrested, adding that the FA will " try as much as possible to not allow this thing to repeat itself.”

While Hughton may be hoping that such an incident does not take place again, he will also be hoping to rectify the Black Stars' poor start to the tournament.

His side will take on Egypt, who will be looking to do the same after salvaging a 2-2 draw against Mozambique in their opener. The sides will butt heads on Thursday in what will be a must-win game for both teams.

It promises, however, to be a tight, tense affair as the last four AFCON matches between the two giants produced just five goals.
