Bafana Bafana's Africa Cup of Nations road to the final makes Hugo Broos compare it to Cameroon winning the tournament in 2017, should they beat Morocco in the last 16.

The Atlas Lions are seemingly the toughest opponent Bafana can face, on paper, in the knockout path to the final, as Cape Verde awaits the winner between the two sides.

The semi-final path can also make South Africa to dream of reaching the final, as they will meet Nigeria or Angola if they make it to the last four.

In addressing the media from Ivory Coast, Broos says the way Bafana are developing in the tournament reminds him of his former team, the Indomitable Lions in 2017, where they started slow and had their toughest opponent in the quarter-final (before expansion to 24 teams), Senegal and after eliminating them on penalties, everything fell into place.

"When you see what we did and I compare that with Cameroon seven years ago, it's a little bit the same," Broos told journalists in a press conference.

"We went through group stages, we played good but not really fantastic and then came that difficult game against Senegal, we won it on penalties and from then we flew.

"We had so much confidence that we won it. So we can compare that a little bit but again I don't like to compare things, it's always different, we have a different opponent, a team that was fourth in the World Cup," he said.

What gives Broos confidence of beating Morocco is also the performance they showed against hosts Ivory Coast in a friendly international that ended 1-1 in October last year in Abidjan, although the Belgian feels they should have won the game.

"We did a very good game in Ivory Coast a few months ago, normally I think we deserved to win that game, so let's hope we can achieve that level also (on Tuesday), because it was a high level on our side," Broos continued.

"Ivory Coast was surprised by us so we will also try to surprise Morocco," he added.
