The Royal Moroccan Football Federation confirmed in a statement that it has renewed its confidence in head coach Walid Regragui.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has made a decision on head coach Walid Regragui's future after his side's 2023 Africa Cup of nations exit at the hands of South Africa.

The Atlas Lions suffered a 2-0 defeat to Bafana Bafana that saw them bow out of the competition at the round of 16 stage, in what is now considered by many to have been a disappointing campaign for the North Africans.

Following that defeat, Regragui admitted that his job could be on the line as he would be sitting with federation president Faouzi Lakjaa "to see what is in the best interest of the national team" going forward.

Those discussions have since taken place, with it having been decided that the 48-year-old who led Morocco to the semi-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup will continue to occupy his current role as head coach.

The FRMF revealed in a statement that it renewed its confidence in the manager after holding "several evaluation meetings regarding the national football team's participation in the finals of the Africa Cup of Nations currently being held in Cote d'Ivoire".

The statement adds: "The shortcomings that were present in this competition were also identified, especially in the last match against the South African national team.

"For his part, Mr. Faouzi Lakjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, stressed the necessity of continuing to work and making every effort to give the national team and football the position it deserves in order to please the Moroccan fans in the upcoming competitions."

The Atlas Lions will be looking to make up for the disappointment they suffered at the continental showpiece as they now prepare to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, and will also be keen on securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to the statement, the national football team's hierarchy also expressed its confidence in the ability of the current coach to lead the way going forward.

"On the occasion, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation renews its confidence in Mr. Walid Regragui to lead the next stage, giving him all means of support and support in order to achieve the status that national football in general and the national team in particular deserve."
