Pitso Mosimane might have moved into a new job in the United Arab Emirates but matters relating to his successor at Al Ahli Saudi remain unresolved.

It was at the beginning of May when promotion ‘was already in the bag’ that it emerged Mosimane was being given a cold shoulder about a contract renewal at Al Ahli who had already begun their search for a new coach to take over upon their return to the Saudi Pro League.

Names of big-name European coaches – who were preferred by the club – were thrown around and included Massimiiano Allgeri and Andre Villas-Boas.

Mosimane’s expected departure was then confirmed after icing his promotion mission by winning the Saudi first division and since then he has moved across the border to the UAE to join Al Wahda.

For all the big-name signings that Al Ahli have made in Roberto Firmino (Liverpool), Edouard Mendy (Chelsea), and Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City) while targeting Thomas Partey from Arsenal and Allan Saint-Maximin of Newcastle United, they are still without a new head coach.

The latest reports have linked the club with Fulham coach Marco Silva.

According to reports Al Ahli are aiming to elevate Silva into the top tier of earners in the world.

Silva has one year left on his contract with the London club and should he be enticed to the Middle East, he will become the first serving manager to make that move.

Reports says the Portuguese has concerns over Fulham’s lack of activity in the transfer market.

In the meantime, Al Ahli are already in pre-season.

The facts about Mosimane’s stay at Al Ahli which began in September 2022 are that he had 19 wins, seven draws and three defeats at Al Ahli taking the club from seventh position that he found them in to top of the standings.

The 58-year-old kept this proud record of winning silverware with every club that he has coached from SuperSport United, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Al Ahly (Egypt).

In March, the Saudi second tier league also announced that Mosimane had been named as coach of the month.
