The confirmation of all 24 qualified nations for the AFCON finals has left Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns guaranteed of non-South African players at the tournament in Ivory Coast.

Namibia and Cameroon were the last two qualifiers on Tuesday night bringing the full complement of qualifiers to 24.

The Nations Cup will run from January 13 to February 11, 2024, and will force domestic football to pause for six weeks after December 30, 2023, until February 13, 2024.

Sundowns hitman Peter Shalulile and Deon Hotto of Pirates will lead the PSL contingent for Namibia which also has Riaan Hanamub (AmaZulu), Lubeni Haukongo (Cape Town Spurs), Lloyd Kazapua (Chippa United), and Ananias Gebhardt (Baroka).

Barring injury, Shalulile and Hotto are guaranteed of their places.

For Mozambique, Kaizer Chiefs defender Edmilson Dove will be in the team if he is not injured and will be joined by Manuel Kambala of Polokwane City.

Orlando Pirates keeper Richard Ofori will represent Ghana having recently returned to the Black Stars squad. 

Abdelmounaim Boutouil hasn’t given up on breaking into the Morocco squad as he continues to impress at Mamelodi Sundowns.

Gamphani Lungu (SuperSport United), Augustine Mulenga (Chippa United), and Rally Bwalya (Sekhukhune United) will be hoping to break into the Zambian squad. 

Abdi Banda (Richards Bay), Abdulrazak Hamza (SuperSport United), Baraka Majogoro (Chippa United), and David Uromi (Moroka Swallows) will take interest in the Tanzania squad.

The bulk of the Bafana AFCON squad will also come from the DStv Premiership.

At its stands, the seeded teams (according to the latest FIFA rankings) that have qualified are Morocco (14), Senegal (18), Tunisia (31), Algeria (33), Egypt (34), and Nigeria (39).

Pot two has Cameroon (42), Mali (51), Ivory Coast (52), Burkina Faso (56), Ghana (60), and South Africa (63).

In Pot there is Cape Verde (66), DR Congo (69), Guinea (81), Zambia (84), Equatorial Guinea (91), and Mauritania (101).

Pot four has Guinea-Bissau (112), Namibia (114), Angola (116), Mozambique (117), The Gambia (119), and Tanzania (124).

CAF will use the latest FIFA rankings – to be released on September 21 – to determine the seedings for the AFCON finals draw on October 12.

Those rankings will determine whether Bafana remain in the second pot or drop down to the third.

Teams in each of the four pots cannot meet in the group stages.
