Ndumiso Mabena is not yet ready to retire from playing football and believes still has more to offer to the game.

Mabena joined Polokwane City at the start of the season after spending time with Orlando Pirates last season. Like a good wine, the 36-year-old midfielder is maturing with age and going strong on the field of play where has delivered man-of-the-match performances for Rise and Shine so far this season.

KickOff sat down with Mabena to find out the secret behind his fine season with Polokwane City and what will stop him from playing football.

Please tell us about your good performance with Polokwane City so far this season.

"It’s all about hard work. The belief they have in me, the coaches, and the chairman and I am thankful that they believe that they have in me despite my age. So I have to continue to work hard and keep going."

Any bad memories of last season with Orlando Pirates?

"It was one of those things that happen in football, so you have to be strong, here I am today playing football and enjoying my football again. It’s one of those things."

At the age of 36 years old, any plans of retiring soon?

"Look, if I can still walk means that I can still run, if I can run that means I can still walk. I am just enjoying my football at the moment and I can’t see when I am going to stop playing football. My target is to continue playing soccer until the age of 40 and even maybe beyond. It's only God knows I can’t predict my future."

What’s the secret that still keeps you going strong in your football career?

Look its lifestyle... Working hard, taking care of the body, this is the temple of God. He has given me the talent to show off to the world what has given me. I am just taking care of my body. I am happy that am still playing football at this age.

What are your ambitions with Polokwane City this season?

It’s a team that has just come back in PSL, for us this season we just have to save the status and we will take it from there.
