Riveiro's wish for hot-and-cold Kimvuidi

Head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed his wish for midfielder Karim Kimvuidi, who got his name on the scoresheet as Orlando Pirates hammered Lamontville Golden Arrows 7-1 last weekend.

The Buccaneers returned to winning form in thrilling fashion thanks to a Mabasa hat-trick, while Kabelo Dlamini, Sandile Mthethwa, Karim Kimvuidi and Relebohile Mofokeng also grabbed one goal each to add to the eye-watering scoreline.

The match also marked a return to action for Kimvuidi, who had been an unused substitute in Pirates’ 1-1 draw against Moroka Swallows just several days prior.

The goal was only a second of the season for the DR Congolese, who had only scored for Bucs in December 2023 against the same Arrows. He has tended to blow hot and cold since his move from Maritzburg United at the beginning of the season, much to the frustration of the Pirates faithful who expect a lot more from a player of his quality.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Riveiro explained the introduction of Kimvuidi and revealed that behind the scenes, the 22-year-old has been hard at work.

"We just gave Karim the last 10 minutes because he didn’t participate in the recent games," said the Spaniard.

"He is a guy that is fighting, he’s training very well and we all know his quality and his capacity. So, it’s good, and I hope that the goal he scored in extra (referee's added) time is going to help him in terms of confidence."

The 7-1 thrashing is the highest winning margin completed by any in team the DStv Premiership this season and the victory takes the Sea Robbers up to third on the log table, but still 12 points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who have four matches in hand.
