Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has revealed what impressed him the most about their 4-2 win over AmaZulu in the Nedbank Cup quarter-finals.

A brace by Patrick Maswanganyi and goals from Kabelo Dlamini and Makhehlene Makhaula gave Pirates an emphatic win as they made it through to the semi-finals.

Riveiro says they responded to the demands of a cup game.

"Well, proper football game, no? I think it was a good show from the beginning, we started the game very well with a number of chances to get a comfortable advantage, we couldn't. They capitalized in one mistake in our organization, in a lateral cross," Riveiro said on SuperSport.

"We came back just before half-time with a 1-1 and I think the second-half was maybe not at a level of the first-half from our side but still dominating, creating chances.

"I'm happy for the boys, they fought a lot, we played football when it was time to play football, we fought when it was time to fight. The cup games are like this, you have to play three, four different games inside the 90 (minutes) and I think we were a better team in all of them."

Riveiro continued and revealed what impressed him the most about their performance.

"We as coaches the place where we learn the most is from our players. If we don't learn from our players, we're not gonna get the best from our team. So it's a constant process from the training ground to the competition," the Spanish coach said.

"Today I'm really not surprised but impressed with the way the team competed. We played very good football but we also played with the heart, they played for the fans. The atmosphere today was incredible.

"At the end of the day we're doing it for them. They are gonna be Orlando Pirates fans their whole lives, we're here for a time and we have to give our all because that's what they deserve," he concluded.
