Head coach Jose Riveiro has given his verdict on the recent performances of striker Zakhele Lepasa who scored a ninth goal in eight matches as Orlando Pirates defeated Cape Town City on Tuesday.

The Buccaneers battled their way to a 2-0 victory against the Citizens at Orlando Stadium thanks to a spectacular strike by Lepasa in the first half and a controversial goal from Patrick Maswanganyi late in the game.

Riveiro shared his thoughts on Lepasa's recent form and the club's attacking line.

"Look, we need to make sure that our forwards, the number nine, our 10s, wingers, the ones who are coming from the second line, they have chances [to score]," Riveiro said post-match.

"So we try to generate as many chances as possible and I think that we [are getting] used to doing it so that's our obsession: to spend as much time as possible in the half of the opponent.

"Today like I said in the second half it was tough to do it because of the way that Cape Town City was pressing, and if we manage to spend - we are capable of having the team playing close to the goal for long periods with the quality that we have in front – It's going to work for us and that is what is happening that's why the forwards are scoring.

"That's why maybe the goals this season are more spread out within the group, even though Zakes (Zakhele Lepasa) is in a very good moment of form and is in that moment that a striker also needs, you know, to have the confidence even if it's a rebound or from long range like today or heading, you can see that he is an in a good space.

"We just have to try and continue that whoever is playing there whether it's Zakes or somebody else in this position, like I said the forwards, they can have those situations and luckily for them to see the quality of the players that are playing behind them, they are going to have a lot of fun."

Pirates now turn their attention to the MTN8 where they take on Stellenbosch in the semi-final of the cup competition at Athlone Stadium on Saturday.
