The Premier Soccer League has explained the real reason today's DStv Premiership fixture between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United could not be postponed.

The defending champions will play host to Sekhukhune United this evening at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

Most people expected the match to be postponed to another date since the Tshwane club has a blockbuster semi-final fixture against Esperance at the same venue on Friday.

Sundowns lost the CAF Champions League semi-final first-leg encounter that was played in Tunisia 1-0, and they will need to score twice on Friday to progress to the final.

"Sundowns they've got so many fixtures, so their matches can't be postponed at this moment,"  PSL official Ronnie Schloss tells KickOff.

"In May we have to finish the league and the season, and they still have the Nedbank Cup to play, they are also still in the CAF Champions League, and they still got the all league fixtures.

"Already Mamelodi Sundowns they have a congested fixture until the end of the season.

"We came to an agreement with them to fixing dates for the fixtures."

Masandawana are expected to rest most of their big stars against Sekhukhune to avoid unnecessary injuries.

Sekhukhune, meanwhile, currently sit in fourth position on the DStv Premiership table with six league matches remaining, but they can move into top three with a win.
