Lucas Ribeiro Costa’s move to Mamelodi Sundowns from Belgium might have faced negative sentiments but the Brazilian is already on the way to making his first season in South Africa count as the best of his career.
Costa has taken to Sundowns like a duck to water since joining from Belgian where he played for three years after arriving from France, which was his home for two years after landing from Brazil.

The 25-year-old has 12 goal contributions in just 14 games playing for Sundowns.
Nine have been goals, while three have been assists proving just how key he has been in the last third despite only arriving at the beginning of the season and being limited in his command of the language used in communicating (English).
The best season that Costa has ever had in his career playing first team football was last season when he scored 11 (plus 8 assists) in 33 appearances at SK Beveren in the Belgian second tier league.
With Sundowns having played only a third of their season, Costa is only two goals shy of his best scoring total.
The Brazilians still have another 21 games to play in the DStv Premiership plus at least five in the Champions League and a minimum of one in the Nedbank Cup.

That fixture run could stretch to 11 on the continent and five in the Nedbank Cup if they reach the finals of both competitions.
For Costa, his first season will get better than what he did at any of Valenciennes, Royal Excelsior Virton, Chaleroi SC, RWD Molenbeek, or Royal Excel Mouscron where he played before while in Europe.
