Former Mamelodi Sundowns star Lovers Mohlala pleads with the club’s supporters to leave room for disappointment in their Nedbank Cup semi-final encounter.

Sundowns have been drawn against the stubborn Stellenbosch FC, while rivals Orlando Pirates take on Chippa United this weekend.

Stellies are the current Carling Knockout champions.

"The only exciting thing we're looking for in our football right now is the Nedbank Cup," Mohlala tells KickOff.

"Pirates is playing Chippa United and Sundowns is playing Stellenbosch FC, and everybody is hoping for a dream final. But Pirates, they mustn't take Chippa United for granted otherwise it can be a serious upset. On the other side, Stellenbosch is a very unpredictable team, they are coached by someone who has played the game under those circumstances.

"With the way Sundowns is playing at the moment, fans should be worried what will be the outcome of the Stellenbosch game," he adds.

Mohlala reveals what it is about his former side, who were knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Esperance last Friday, that is giving him sleepless nights regarding the upcoming cup encounter.

"Football is a game of mistakes, you only win if you minimize your mistakes. Recently, Sundowns have not been scoring.

"If I watched them against AmaTuks, as a fan will I be confident they are going to beat Stellenbosch FC?

"Experience is the only thing that gave them an edge over University of Pretoria FC.

"But we must understand Stellenbosch has nothing to lose, it's just that people will always back the favourites compared to the underdogs.

"My point is, for now there are no clear-cut favorites in the Nedbank Cup semi-finals based on current form.

"Looking at the way Sundowns are playing at the moment, it leaves us with the question of whether Sundowns are favourites against Stellenbosch. At the moment, you can never be sure if you can bet for Sundowns, they are currently at the same level as Liverpool.

"Liverpool were top, top, top, but now it's all gone, they've hit a slump. Just like Sundowns, they have dropped.

"Sundowns don't have terrible players, but the thing is they no longer combine as they used to."

Sundowns are set for a big week where they are facing TS Galaxy on Monday and Kaizer Chiefs on Thursday, prior to a visit to Stellies on Saturday.
