Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena expressed his displeasure with his own players after failing to beat ten-man Orlando Pirates.

After a goalless first stanza, Pirates were reduced to ten minutes early in the second stanza after Miguel Timm received his second yellow card and was sent off.

Marcelo Allende eventually broke the deadlock for Masandawana in the last 15 minutes but the Buccaneers equalised moments later through Tapelo Xoki from the penalty spot.

Mokwena says he was not happy with his team and referees.

"Lacking (fluidity) but there's a lot of reasons for that, the first game after a long break, rotations but we can't keep on making that as an excuse you know," Mokwena said on SuperSport TV.

"I don't like the game today, it's not a game of football and first time I don't like my team, not at all and of course for a game of football you need three good teams, I don't like my team today, I don't think the referees were good today and I never complain about referees but I don't think they were good today. I think Pirates put up a fight, so ja.

"But where's the level of consistency, I mean, okay let me leave it, I'm not happy with today, so the less I say the better because then I'm gonna get myself into big trouble."

The 37-year-old tactician struggled to find positives from their performance and said he has to take responsibility first.

"It would be very difficult (to find positives) because I'd be clutching at straws. But okay I think Divine was good, it was good to see him play, Mosa was good but not too happy at all," he went on.

"And it starts with me you know, if I'm not happy with my team I look at myself in the mirror, so I've got to start with myself," he added.
