Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena gave a hint of a problematic position they could not strengthen in the January transfer window.

Sundowns were linked with Bafana Bafana striker Lars Veldwijk in the January transfer window after he was a free agent following his exit from South Korean outfit Suwon FC.

However, Veldwijk eventually signed with Spanish third-tier side Castellon after the Brazilians reportedly pulled out of the deal.

The Tshwane giants could once again be in the market for a physical specimen, similar to Veldwijk, with strong presence in the box, particularly good in the air, in the next transfer window, after Mokwena admitted that their game is limited to just playing on the ground because they don't have a striker like Bradley Grobler of SuperSport United.

Following a 1-1 draw against Matsatsantsa in the Tshwane Derby, the 37-year-old coach addressed a question in the post-match press conference on the lack of crossing from his side.

"I wish we had that type of a finisher, we don't have a Bradley Grobler, it's difficult (for us to make crosses). Lorch crossed one in the first half, and then what happened?" Mokwena asked, speaking to reporters at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

"We conceded so many times last season from counter-attacks from crosses. It's the only situation we cannot press, it's when the keeper has the ball from a cross.

"The rules don't allow us to press and so we lose one or two possibilities to win the ball closer to the box when he catches and he distributes deeper. We don't want to defend with our backs chasing," he said.

"But if we had that type of striker to finish those situations, we would put, but it's very difficult. I agree. It's the type of a cross, but the one there (in the air), the advantage is for the keeper and then the advantage is for the defending team and not Sundowns," he added.

Sundowns, in recent times, signed Mauricio Affonso and Pavol Safranko to give them a different attacking outlet when they needed crosses into the box and they had relative success with the tall strikers, who however did not stay long at Chloorkop.
