The significance of Tuesday evening’s fixture is that Mokwena will walk in still unbeaten in a domestic league match since walloping Maritzburg United 5-0 in October 2022.

Mokwena will also take inspiration from what Xabi Alonso is doing with Bayer Leverkusen where he is unbeaten in 23 games in the Bundesliga this season.

Sundowns have now played 35 league games under Mokwena winning 26 and playing out nine draws including three in the current season.

Through that period, Mokwena has been able to take points off every opponent that he has faced in a league match.

The list of opposition coaches that he has down include Ernst Middendorp, Pablo Franco Martin, Gavin Hunt, Steve Barker, Jose Riveiro, Phuti Mohafe, Kaitano Tembo, Morgan Mammila, Mabhuti Khenyeza, Molefi Ntseki, Brandon Truter, Dan Malesela, Sead Ramovic, Vasili Manousakis, Arthur Zwane, Khabo Zondo, and John Maduka.

Only Cape Town City’s Eric Tinkler is yet to suffer defeat against a Mokwena-led Sundowns.

Franco Martin is back again on Tuesday with Usuthu.

The Brazilians have the record title winning total of 71 points in sight and at the rate at which they are moving they will also move to the quickest dash to the title after lifting the title with seven games to spare last season.

Sundowns’ title-winning numbers in the last decade have been 70, 65, 67, 59, 59, 60, 71, and 65 which gives an average of 64,5 points.

This means the champions will now need 26 points from 15 games to wrap up their seventh consecutive league.
