Mamelodi Sundowns’ DStv Premiership season could now turn into a series of fun episodes of seeking to overturn whatever records stand on their path.

That Sundowns will bag their seventh consecutive league title is no longer an argument as they only need 12 points from 10 games to wrap up the title.

Stellenbosch FC can only get to 63 points if they win all their remaining games, which is the most that any of the chasing pack can reach.

Sundowns already have 52 points.

Beyond adding another league title, the Chloorkop-based outfit have the invincibles chase at stake.

No team has ever gone unbeaten all season in the history of the PSL.

The best attempt at this feat was by Sundowns when they came stuck at number 22.

They have reached 20 matches undefeated this season, with another 10 to play.

The Brazilians’ remaining games are against Moroka Swallows, Sekhukhune United, Kaizer Chiefs, Stellenbosch, Cape Town City and Golden Arrows, while they must still play Royal AM and TS Galaxy home and away.

Still without a defeat with a third of the season to play, it means even if they don’t go unbeaten all season, they could end with the least number of defeats.

The least number of defeats record is held by Sundowns, who lost once on their way to the 2020/21 title.

There is also the most wins column record, which stands at 22 (for a 16-team PSL league) and was achieved by The Brazilians on their way to the 2015/16 season when they reached 71 points.

Sundowns have won 16 to date and need another seven to set a new top mark.

That 71-points target attained in the 2015/16 season remains the highest and they will surpass that with another 20 points in the bag.

The most goals feat (56 – 2021/22) is still there for the taking, just like the longest unbeaten start to a new season and least goals conceded, having only conceded five to date.

It will be fun for the champions, who also still have interests in the Nedbank Cup and CAF Champions League.
