AmaZulu midfielder Rowan Human has named a Mamelodi Sundowns star as the toughest opponent he has come up against in the DStv Premiership.

Human came through the Wits academy and at the time, became the third youngest player to make a Premiership debut at 18 years old in a 2-0 win against Stellenbosch back in 2020.

The former South Africa U-20 captain then had stints abroad with Beitar Tel Aviv before returning to local shores with Maritzburg United and currently with AmaZulu.

Speaking exclusively to KickOff, Human revealed that the toughest opponent he came up against while playing in the Premiership is Sundown's maestro Neo Maema.

"Toughest one? That’s tricky to say I’ve played against many good central midfielders but I would probably Neo Maema," Human tells KickOff

"Ja, he (Maema) is all over the place. It’s not so much the abilities but that he is very hard to keep up with you know. He is also very smart as well and works well in the pockets. Probably one of the most underrated players around.

Maema has had to carve his way into a star-studded team that included at the time Andile Jali, Teboho Mokoena, Gaston Sirino, Sipho Mbule and Themba Zwane.

The 28-year-old was one of the standout players for the Brazilians last season, contributing seven goals and five assists in 35 appearances from the middle of the park.

"Neo is a top professional, a pleasure to coach because he is extremely intelligent and he is also a hardworking player with an incredible work ethic," Mokwena said of Maema in April.
