Kaizer Chiefs legend Marks Maponyane has come to the defence of under-fire Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane amid a poor run of from.

Chiefs sunk to a new low when they suffered a third consecutive defeat across all competitions from a 1-0 defeat to SuperSport on Saturday. The loss was their eleventh defeat of the season – the highest number the club has endured in a single campaign in the PSL era.

Fuming supporters have called for immediate intervention, with reports suggesting discussions have begun within the Chiefs hierarchy to find a replacement for Zwane.

However, club legend Maponyane believes Amakhosi should stick it out with 'Mangethe'.

"Let me take you back, you know that we have come as far back as Steve Komphela, [Ernst] Middendorp, Gavin Hunt, we can rank them. What's been happening? So you cannot think you're changing Arthur Zwane and [then] suddenly you are going to get a first trophy?," Maponyane said on Radio2000.

"Let me ask you a questions, if your bus is broken, and people are stranded in this bus, do you change drivers or you just repair the bus? That's my point."

"I looked at Kaizer Chefs, Arthur Zwane and then the young players an I thought 'this is a plan for the future.' It's not easy to make a fan understand that.

"Even when there is direction, they will derail you because they want want instant solutions and those instant results are always the problem with the game, especially when it comes to the likes of Chiefs , Pirates or Sundowns

"You can get away with it if you are Sekhukhune, you can get away with it when you are maybe Maritzburg United or Arrows but with Chiefs [you can't]. How many years has Arrows not won a cup? with Chiefs you can't get that patience."

Despite sustaining a minor facial injury while being escorted off the field by police due to spectator violence, Zwane is expected to be on the bench when Chiefs host Cape Town City on Saturday at FNB Stadium for both teams' final match of the season.
