Kaizer Chiefs' trophy-less run has had scores of supporters and former players hurting and club legend Siphiwe Tshabalala has given his view on the current state of affairs at Amakhosi.

Chiefs' streak without silverware extended to nine seasons after they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Motsepe Foundation Championship side Milford in the first round.

The Glamour Boys showed promise early in the season after reaching the semi-finals of the MTN8 but they were bundled out by Mamelodi Sundowns 3-2 on aggregate.

However, the Soweto giants also had a first round elimination in the Carling Knockout, after defeat against AmaZulu triggered the removal of former head coach Molefi Ntseki from his position.

Tshabalala, who is one of the last generation of players to win trophies at Chiefs, has suggested that the players at the club seem to be comfortable with the state of the art facilities and environment at the Naturena village and have lost the value of what it means to play for the Soweto giants.

"Players need to know why they are there. They must not be familiar with the environment. I think that's the most critical thing, don't get used to that place. It's a beautiful place, everything there, the standard, it's the best. It even matches the top teams in Europe," Tshabalala gave his view on 947's MSW.

"So if you get familiar with the environment, you get complacent and after that it's mediocre, you're gone and what I see is that players don't enjoy, they don't enjoy playing football. They don't know the value of playing for Chiefs.

"And I think the cry from the fans is, yes you can lose games but the manner in which you lose games. Leave everything on the field and then we can say the boys tried, they gave their all. I think that's what is required, give your best, work hard and leave everything on the field and the results will come. Because honestly, Chiefs don't have bad players, they've got good players but they don’t have a team," the Bafana Bafana legend added.
