Defender Given Msimango has provided his assessment of the Kaizer Chiefs defence and working under head coach Molefi Ntseki.

Msimango is one of several faces at Naturena and was arguably Amakhosi's marquee signing following a season-long pursuit of the centre-back's who was nominated for the DStv Premiership Defender of the Season.

Chiefs conceded seven goals in their first five matches of the 22/23 season while they've conceded four in their first five this season,  slight improvement that has gone down well with the Amakhosi faithful and a step in the right direction according to Msimango.

"I'm just happy that my performances are inspiring a lot of people and giving hope to the supporters that the club is heading in the right direction," Msimango said on Thursday.

"Credit cannot only go to me alone, you mentioned TT (Thatayaone Dithlokwe), I'll also mention Zitha, Reeve, Sifiso Hlanti, including the goalkeepers. We've been a huge solid unit together with the rest of the guys."

"Defending is not only a defender's job, it's the team holistically, but I'm mentioning those key individuals because it's one department and we are working solidly and gelling well so far."

Msimango's arrival also coincided with the appointment of Molefi Ntseki as head coach.

"Fantastic, Ntate Ntseki is a father figure, he is a teacher, he understands the game very well. He's very experienced and understands the game very well.

"I think his presence within the club, within the group plays a huge role and he's had a huge included on my career and my development at the club, so I'm very happy to be working under him."

Meanwhile, Chiefs take on Royal AM in the DStv Premiership at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 17:30.
