Former Bafana Bafana head coach Ephraim "Shakes" Mashaba has slammed clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for what he calls a poor scouting network.
Mashaba says the two Soweto giants have been playing second fiddle to Mamelodi Sundowns for too long now, due to their poor talent identifying.

"A season should always start with fireworks," Mashaba tells KickOff.
"We still going on the same route, Sundowns are still dominating, and others are still coming from behind still trying to catch up.
"That shows there is still so much to be done, I'm not so happy really about what one is seeing in our football.
"What is good about Sundowns is their continuity because they are still doing the same thing, they've been doing all along.
"Now they are sitting on 15 points. They are maintaining their standard Sundowns.
"The problem is the clubs we normally say are big and all that, their wins come in what is normally described as lucky wins.
"Chiefs last week were not good, this week they won by three goals. Pirates also some of their wins were not that convincing.
"We need to go to our scouts, talk to them, and see if they are opening their fangs like a snake if it wants to strike.
"Unfortunately, this thing of agents recommending players to clubs is killing most of these clubs.
"We no longer scout for players; we just take anybody that somebody has recommended.
"We just signed a player because he was recommended by Shakes. That is where we are losing it.
"It is time we need to stop settling for second best in football in this country both male and female.
"I mean we've got the material. We've got players who can pull it off.
"Let us stop scouting by friendship. Let us scout and select players by their performance.
"I think that's what is going to take us somewhere."
