Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune has opened up on his return to action and reveals his targets having served his suspensions and returned to the Amakhosi squad.

Chiefs announced via a club statement the return to the squad of Khune having fully served his suspension and successfully undergone the club’s disciplinary procedure.

The veteran shot-stopper was 'temporarily separated' by the club following an internal investigation. This came after multiple reports surfaced alleging that the former Bafana Bafana number one had been guilty of a number of transgressions at the Naturena-based outfit, including allegedly reporting for training under the influence of alcohol.

Speaking to SuperSportTV for the first time since his return to the squad, Khune revealed that he is eyeing the number one spot in the goalkeeping department and gave teammate Bruce Bvuma credit for the side’s recent defensive form.

"The next chapter is to work hard, get back in the team, stay fit and challenge for the number one spot again," Khune said.

"But I have to give credit to the goalkeeping department, more especially to Bruce Bvuma, who has been doing tremendously well for the club. He kept seven clean sheets in eight matches.

"So, I wish him everything of the best and he must just keep doing what he has been doing, which will help the club get back to greater heights."

The 36-year-old was not part of the Amakhosi team that played to a 2-2 draw against Tuks in a behind-closed-doors friendly match last Friday but may get the nod when the Soweto giants take on Cape Town City on Saturday at Athlone Stadium.
