Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has thrown his voice into the presence of Doctor Khumalo at Naturena this week.

'16V' was spotted at the Kaizer Chiefs Village on Thursday and while club head coach Arthur Zwane played down the Khumalo presence as nothing more than a casual visit to an old stomping ground, the 49-year-old also indicated that Khumalo’s presence could serve as a boost for his players.

"He’s always part of the family, his contribution to the club is second to none and so, whenever he comes to visit, whenever he comes to see us, we embrace that. It was good to see him as well," Zwane said.

"We always talk about football and share ideas as well. We learn from each other."

Amakhosi are set to depart for Polokwane for a DStv Premiership clash against Golden Arrows to take place on Sunday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

After that trip, will be a return to FNB Stadium for the Soweto derby against Orlando Pirates on 25 February and Zwane believes Khumalo and other club legends could serve as a reminder of Amakhosi’s high standards for a squad that is mostly made up of new faces.

"It [the tradition of club legends visiting before a derby] played a huge role in the past and it’s still going to play a huge role going forward. But I would love to see them [club legends] quite more often, not only when it’s the derby, because all the games are equally important," Zwane added.

"Yes, it’s good [that legends visit the club] because it also helps these players realise the importance of playing in the derby. You can create history. You can be remembered. We’re talking about Mntungwa [Khumalo] right now and there’s many other players who did very well."

"So we also want these players to be among the best, not only during the derby."
