Despite the Carling All Star team being announced earlier today, Kaizer Chiefs have dropped a bombshell on the proposed line-up for the much-anticipated clash against Carling Knockout winners, Stellenbosch FC.

Chiefs announced on the club's official social channels, that goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune, is ineligible for the All Stars team.

Khune was the subject of media reports relating to ill-discipline at the club, and the Glamour Boys made a decision to suspend the veteran goalkeeper earlier this month.

The final starting XI for the Carling All Star was announced today, as voted by fans.

"Kermit Erasmus, Ashley du Preez and Itumeleng Khune will line-up in the same team for the first time ever, after hundreds of thousands of champion fans made their voices heard for the new format of the 2023/2024 Carling Black Label Cup," said the statement issued by Carling.

"The Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs trio are part of a strong Carling All-Star team that will take on Carling Knockout champions Stellenbosch FC at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on 6th of January 2024, in the revised Carling Black Label Cup.

"Fans were able to vote for their favourite players from across Premier Division and Diski Challenge teams, to form the real-life fantasy team that is the Carling All-Stars. The team features players from AmaZulu FC, as well as Soweto sides Chiefs and Pirates– who are used to squaring off against each other in this competition," the statement read, in part.

Chiefs then confirmed that Khune will not participate in the clash, due to his suspension "from all football-related activities".

"Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, will not be available to participate in next month’s match between the Carling All-Stars and the winners of the 2023 Carling Knockout Cup, Stellenbosch FC," the club announced on its official website.

"Despite being voted into the All-Stars line-up via a public poll, Khune is currently serving a suspension from all football-related activities at Kaizer Chiefs, and is therefore ineligible for selection.

"The player, as well as the PSL, have been informed of his unavailability and an announcement from the League and sponsors, Carling, regarding the make-up of the All-Star team will be made in due course," Amakhosi confirmed.

The rest of the Carling All Stars side include Edson Castillo, Kagiso Mnguni, Mfundo Vilakazi, Siphamandla Zikhali, Olisa Ndah, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Masibonge Ngidi, Jabulani Mokone, and will be led by Jose Riveiro.
