Lamontville Golden Arrows co-head coach Vusi Vilakazi has explained why he believes the Player of the Season Award should have gone to Orlando Pirates' Monnapule Saleng.
Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Teboho Mokoena walked away with the PSL Footballer of the Season award at the 22/23 PSL Awards on Sunday, fending off competition from teammate Ronwen Williams and Pirates' talisman Saleng.

Vilakazi believes Saleng's 11 goals and eight assists should have been enough to clinch the award.
"That matter is a complicated one because, as you've heard from coaches. One is saying 'it should have to my player' and the other is saying 'it should have gone to my player,'" Vilakazi told GagasiFM Sports.
"I think when we check the consistency between the two players Mokoena and Saleng, judging them can't be purely based on consistency because both of them have been playing week in and week out.
"But I think once you included statistics like goals and assists and things like that, it becomes a plus for a player to have a that. So I also see it that way, that it (the Player of the Season award) should have gone to Saleng when we look at it in terms of statistics and the impact he had throughout the season."
Meanwhile both players have been called up to the 34-man preliminary Bafana Bafana squad to face Morocco in on 17 June.
