Kaizer Chiefs registered back-to-back wins for the first time in the DStv Premiership after defeating Stellenbosch FC 2-0 on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs had full-back Reeve Frosler back in the side after he missed the win over AmaZulu on Saturday as Sifiso Hlanti dropped out, while the Maroons welcomed back goalkeeper Sage Stephens.

After a lively start, the Maroons worked the first chance when a low ball out wide rolled in for Andre de Jong at the far post but his effort failed to beat Brandon Petersen.

Chiefs did attempt to come to the party through the smart off-the-ball runs from Pule Mmodi and Tebogo Potsane, but their movements were all tracked by the home team.

Both sides began to have moments following a lively opening period and witnessed a big number of entries from all angles in the attacking third.

As the deadlock remained elusive, the two teams went to the interval goalless although Stellies would have felt a little disappointed at not being ahead.

Chiefs regained composure after halftime and were ahead when Mmodi combined with Mduduzi Mdantsane before finding the top corner with a superb strike for his third goal of the season.

The Maroons were brought down to ten men in the 55th minute after a disappointing challenge by Devon Titus ended with a second yellow and dismissal.

With the visitors ahead, the Maroons struggled to make proper entries and penetrate the defensive third as playing with one man less didn’t help matters either.

Chiefs, though, were keen to hold onto their slender advantage and were able to call on the likes of Christian Saile and Njabulo Ngcobo from the bench

The changes paid off as Saile sealed the win with two minutes to go with a well-cushioned header to open his account for the season.
